From entrepreneurial dream to recruitment specialist in the agri- and food sector

Over sixteen years ago, the journey of Green People Recruitment began. Not as a large organisation with a marketing plan and a carefully designed organisational chart, but as an entrepreneurial dream: to contribute to the growth of the agri- and food sector by placing the right people in the right positions.

What once started with a desk, a desktop computer and a telephone has grown into a specialised and respected recruitment agency that has firmly established its place within the sector. And just like the sector itself, we have continued to evolve.

Growing in phases: literally and figuratively

Our development is reflected in one simple fact: we have moved offices three times. Not because we enjoy relocating, but because we kept outgrowing our space. More colleagues meant more desks, more clients, more specialisations and, above all, greater responsibility.

But growth is more than FTEs and revenue. We have built a team that has grown substantially in expertise, approach, seniority and sector awareness. Professionals from within the industry who do not simply “move CVs around”, but act as substantive sparring partners for companies; from family-owned businesses and local champions to multinationals.

In an industry where the labour market is constantly under pressure and an ageing workforce is becoming increasingly prominent, that requires more than recruitment alone. It requires insight, vision and commitment.

Helping people grow and sometimes letting them go

Investing in people has always been one of the greatest success factors within our organisation. Training new colleagues to become fully-fledged recruitment consultants in a specialist market, equipped with all the knowledge and skills required.

Some have stayed and become an integral part of our team. Others have chosen a new path over time. That can be unfortunate, but it is also valuable: it means people grow with us to such an extent that they are ready for their next step. And we are proud of that.

We believe that strong organisations are built by strong people. And strong people grow through attention, guidance and trust.

Where we once started as a team of two, today we stand with a fully-fledged team of thirteen specialists. Consultants who not only understand recruitment, but who know the agri- and food sector from the inside out. Professionals who have operated at senior level for many years and understand exactly what is happening on the side of both clients and candidates.

We do not see that sector knowledge as an added extra, but as a prerequisite. Because expertise makes the difference between a quick placement and a sustainable match.

“Recruitment, that we can teach you” has therefore always been our motto. Sector insight, entrepreneurial mindset and an understanding of people, that is what our consultants already bring to the table.

Recruitment and the sector are changing

When we started, LinkedIn was still a relatively new platform. Recruiters mainly operated offline, through trade fairs, networking conversations and stacks of business cards. Today, LinkedIn is one of the world’s leading talent platforms and AI stands ready to reshape everything once again.

Technology accelerates processes, makes matching more efficient and shortens time-to-hire. Recruitment, however, is not about algorithms. It is about genuine conversation, about the connection between individual and organisation, and about the insight you gain only by listening carefully and asking the right questions. That is precisely where our value lies: in connecting ambitions, culture and expertise in a way that goes beyond anything data alone can predict.

Strength through specialisation

Perhaps the most important lesson of recent years is this: generalist recruitment and the era of simply moving CVs around is all but over. Specialists are gaining ground.

Our strength does not lie in being “everything for everyone”, but in focusing on one sector with all its niches, supply chains, challenges and opportunities. From the horticulture business club to the LLTB and ‘green education’ at HAS Green Academy in Venlo, we are actively involved.

That is why our pay-off is not just a slogan, but a strategy: Strength through specialisation.

Looking forward

With developments in AI, internationalisation, the labour market, sustainability and supply chain collaboration, the sector once again stands on the brink of significant change.

The demand for talent, leadership and in-depth expertise is not decreasing; it is continuing to grow. We view these developments not with hesitation, but with energy and conviction. As long as organisations continue to strive for quality, we will continue to add value. That is why we keep building with our established team, continue investing in new tools and ideas, and remain committed to the same goal that formed the foundation sixteen years ago: the right person in the right place, within a sector that truly matters.
